The 2nd part of this class will cover how to incorporate foraged items into your diet. Lydia Brawner, Lead Horticulturalist, will take the class out into the wood to show attendees how to look for foraged items. Please come prepared to be out in the changing elements with longs sleeves, pants, and hats to deter contact with ticks and poison ivy. Participants will learn about how to harvest mushrooms in the wild, specific post-harvest handling and storing of mushrooms before preparing and eating them, while also learning how to preserve. Home cultivation of shitake, wine cap and oyster mushrooms outdoors in your home garden will also be covered. Medicinal purposed and uses of mushrooms will also be covered as the research on this is increasingly positive for health outcomes. This class will also have a mushroom cooking demonstration.

No refunds. By registering for this class you agree to receive communications from Powell Gardens. You may opt-out at any time.
